Monash University to partner on major 2020 Forum

The United Nations Association of Australia is thrilled to announce the creation of a partnership with Monash University to deliver 2020’s major event focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On 15 and 16 April 2020, UNAA and Monash University will bring together UN agencies and Australian business, civil society, academia and government who are leading in building and supporting sustainable partnerships to progress the achievement of the 17 SDGs – https://unaspf2020.unaavictoria.org.au/

UNAA Executive Director Lachlan Hunter said the event will coincide with the beginning of the second trimester in the UN’s 15-year agenda to transform the world through the SDGs.

“This make 2020 the ideal time to make a renewed commitment to partnership and cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.”

Mr Hunter said Monash University was ideally placed to partner in delivering the 2020 UN & Australia Sustainable Partnerships Forum, particularly as the two days will be geared towards creation of sustainable partnerships both within Australia and externally.

“Monash University has a wealth of sustainable development expertise across its ten faculties and the Monash Sustainable Development Institute provides a platform to share that expertise in partnership with industry and government”.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AO said the partnership aligns with the University’s mission to solve the challenges of the age, and will bring the region’s brightest minds together to collaborate, educate and take action.

“It is up to us to harness the strength of research, education and engagement from every corner of the University and broader community, and use that talent to bring about solutions to the world’s sustainable development challenges,” said Professor Gardner.

“We support and promote the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the University is committed to playing a fundamental role in achieving them. We are addressing global issues through our focus on large-scale, interdisciplinary projects, and sharing our capabilities with industry partners to maximise our collective impact and create a better world.”
