Indonesian Language Model UN Conference for Victorian VCE Students
For the first time, the Languages Unit, Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) and the Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers’ Association (VILTA) are excited to announce that they will be hosting an Indonesian Model UN Conference on Friday 11 August, 2017 on the very important topic of The Responsibility To Protect: Preventing Mass Atrocity Crimes. The event will be held at Treasury Theatre, 1 MacArthur Place, Lower Plaza, East Melbourne VIC 3002. VCE Indonesian students are invited to participate. There is no cost for participating students or schools.
The Model UN Conference is a creative simulation of the UN General Assembly in which students represent member states of the UN. In teams of 3 or 4, students will try to negotiate a new UN Resolution on The Responsibility To Protect. The Model UN Conference is an opportunity for students to learn about the UN system, discuss global issues and practice their diplomacy skills in a fun, dynamic environment, while developing key negotiation and public speaking skills.
The Model UN Conference is being managed by the United Nations Association of Australia (Victorian Division) in partnership with VILTA and the DET. It will run over the full school day and all proceedings will be in Indonesian. All student materials and instructions for teachers to prepare their students will be provided by the UNAA Victoria.
Registrations for this event are now closed. For those schools that are registered for the Indonesian Model UN Conference next month, we look forward to having your students involved.
