French Language Model UN Conference for Victorian VCE Students

Following great success from past events, the Languages Unit, Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) and the Association of French Teachers in Victoria (AFTV) are excited to announce that they will be hosting a French Model UN Conference on Tuesday 25 July, 2017 on the very important topic of Asylum Seekers and Refugees: A Global Humanitarian Crisis. The event will be held at Treasury Theatre, 1 MacArthur Place, Lower Plaza, East Melbourne VIC 3002. VCE French students are invited to participate.

The Model UN Conference is a creative simulation of the UN General Assembly in which students represent member states of the UN. In teams of 3 or 4, students will try to negotiate a new UN Resolution on Asylum Seekers and Refugees. The Model UN Conference is an opportunity for students to learn about the UN system, discuss global issues and practice their diplomacy skills in a fun, dynamic environment, while developing key negotiation and public speaking skills.

The Model UN Conference is being managed by the United Nations Association of Australia (Victorian Division) in partnership with AFTV and sponsored by the Languages Unit, DET. It will run over the full school day and all proceedings will be in French. All student materials and instructions for teachers to prepare their students will be provided by the UNAA Victoria.

Registrations for this event are now closed.  For those schools that are registered for the French Model UN Conference this month, we look forward to having your students involved.
