UNAA Victoria and the City of Melbourne, in collaboration with the World Food Forum (WFF) Australian Youth Chapter, will host a screening of award winning short film Hidden Hunger and panel discussion on the inseparable challenges of food and climate.

Climate change is already disrupting food production, supply chains, prices, and nutrition, while unhealthy diets and biodiversity loss continue to rise making it harder for people, especially young people, to access diverse, nutritious food (WFF 2025 report).

These impacts are felt globally and locally – particularly in Melbourne, a city dependent on a climate-vulnerable regional food bowl that supplies a significant proportion of the city’s fresh food. 47% of City of Melbourne residents have reported food insecurity, (CoM 2024/25 Annual Plan).

This event will explore the inextricable link between climate change, food systems, and urban life in Melbourne – from the farms and landscapes that supply the city, to how food is accessed, consumed, and produced within the urban environment.
