As part of our 2026 Climate & SDGs series, UNAA Victoria and the City of Melbourne collaborated with the World Food Forum Australia Youth Chapter to feature the Australian screening of Hidden Hunger, an award-winning short film by Melbourne director Orit Novak
The film was followed by an incredible panel, bringing Melbourne’s food future into sharp focus:
- Dr Rachel Carey – Associate Professor in Food Systems, University of Melbourne
- Yee Zhao – Co-founder of Gnositukoi
- Jasmine Sibree – AgriFutures Australia, 2025 WFF Fellow
- Abe Ropitini – Executive Director of Population Health, VACCHO
Together they explored climate impacts on Melbourne’s food supply, urban food access and affordability, and what equitable food systems can look like right here in Melbourne.
The evening was complete with the audience sampling of ugali, bringing the story from the screen to our table.

This event is the first in seven of our 2026 Climate and SDGs series run with the City of Melbourne. Our next event is on May 21 for Climate & Gender, exploring SDG 5 and what gender equality and climate change mean for women in Melbourne.
